Have your say on the Disability Action Plan

The UK Government is developing a Disability Action Plan, which will set out proposals to improve support and representation of disabled people over the next year. Read our leaflet to find out more about how you can get involved.

The UK Government now wants to have feedback on these ideas. The consultation is open to all. They’re particularly interested in hearing from disabled people, their family and friends.

What’s in the Disability Action Plan?

The proposals in the Action Plan cover lots of different topics around daily life. Some of the actions the Government are proposing are:

  • A Disability Enabled Badge scheme that will provide training for businesses and public services, like shops, on how to make their services more accessible.
  • Appointing a Senior Assistive Technology Champion to improve the public sector’s knowledge of assistive technology, like mobility aids or medical devices.
  • Setting up a task force to look into challenges that disabled parents face such as access to healthcare.
  • Setting up a programme to improve and collect better quality data about disabled people.
  • Setting up a government working group to make climate change adaptations like London’s Ultra-Low Emission Zones (ULEZ) scheme more inclusive.

Some of the actions are more relevant to people with MS than others. We’ve made a leaflet that has more information about the actions most relevant to people with MS and how to get involved in the consultation.

How do I get involved in the consultation?

You can find out more information about the Action Plan’s proposals, including the ones we’ve not mentioned in our leaflet, in the consultation document on the Government’s website.

You can respond to the consultation using an online survey. The consultation closes at 11:59pm on Friday 6 October.

Why is it important that I take part?

Put simply, your views matter. The Government needs to listen to people like you as they produce this important document.

This consultation is your chance to tell the Government what you think of their ideas on how to make things better for disabled people. Even if you think that none of these actions are relevant to you, the consultation gives you an opportunity to tell them what you want to see changed and why.

Please also share the leaflet and spread the word about the consultation. The more feedback the Government gets, the more likely it is that the Action Plan makes a meaningful impact for people with MS.
