MS Society Scotland launches our 2026 election manifesto

Tuesday 2 December 2025

With the next Scottish Parliament election coming in 2026, we’ve launched our new manifesto: A fairer future, speak up for people with MS.

On Wednesday 19 November, we brought together people from the MS community, key organisations and staff from the Scottish Parliament at the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh.

It was an opportunity to share what matters most to people living with MS and to explain the changes we want to see from the next Scottish Government.

What we’re calling for

Our manifesto sets out the action we want the next Scottish Government to take to improve life for people affected by MS in Scotland. It focuses on three key themes:

  1. Improving neurological services
  2. Securing financial independence
  3. Improving mental health support

These priorities were shaped by what people with MS have told us and the data we have: about long waits for neurologists, the pressure of rising costs of living, and a lack of mental health support.

Why this matters now

An estimated 17,400 people in Scotland live with MS, and too many are still being let down by the health and social care systems they rely on.

We need better access to neurologists and MS nurses, stronger mental health services, and support systems that allow people with MS to live independently and with dignity. We also want to see a fairer welfare system and better support for people who want to stay in work, as well as improved support for carers.

By taking action now, the next Scottish Government can help people with MS stay healthier for longer, live more independently and feel more financially secure.

What’s next?

We’ll engage with MSPs, candidates and political parties in the lead-up to the 2026 election, calling on them to support our asks. We want them to commit to building a fairer future for people with MS, and we will push to make sure they speak up for people with MS.
