Diroximel fumarate is a licenced treatment for relapsing MS in the UK, sold under the brand name Vumerity. It's licensed in the UK and available on the NHS in England and Wales.

Fenebrutinib is a new drug being investigated for the treatment of relapsing and primary progressive MS. Phase 2 and 3 trials are currently recruiting people with relapsing and primary progressive MS.

Orelabrutinib is an existing anti-cancer drug being investigated for the treatment of relapsing MS. A phase 2 trial is currently recruiting.

Evobrutinib is a new drug being investigated for the treatment of relapsing MS. Phase 3 trials are recruiting following promising phase 2 results.

Tolebrutinib is a new drug being investigated for the treatment of relapsing, secondary and primary progressive MS. Phase 3 trials are recruiting following promising phase 2b results.

Bexarotene is used to treat skin cancer and was tested as a treatment for MS. Phase 2 clinical trial results showed that bexarotene can repair myelin in humans. However, bexarotene will not be taken forward as participants in the trial experienced some serious side effects.

Metformin is used to treat type 2 diabetes. It's now being tested in clinical trials for MS.

One of our trials is testing metformin as a myelin repair treatment for MS in combination with clemastine (a hay fever drug). Another trial is testing whether metformin can protect nerve cells in progressive MS.

Vatelizumab is being developed as a treatment for relapsing MS, but the phase 2 trial was terminated early in 2016.

Ublituximab is an antibody, just like those found in the immune system (where antibodies help fight infection)

Simvastatin is used to treat high cholesterol, but has also shown promise in MS. It’s being tested in a phase 3 clinical trial.

Rituximab (also known as Rituxan or Mabthera) is already licensed to treat some lymphomas, and is being tested as a treatment for MS.

Phenytoin is already used to treat epilepsy. In a phase 2 clinical trial, phenytoin reduced damage to the back of the eye (retina) by 30% compared with placebo. This suggests it could help to protect nerves from damage.
