Claiming Personal Independence Payment (booklet)

Publish date:
Sep 2017

Many people with multiple sclerosis (MS) can claim Personal Independence Payment (PIP). PIP is a benefit that can help cover the extra costs you may face if you need help doing everyday tasks or find it difficult to get around outside your home.

This booklet has been written for people with MS who are going through the PIP claims process. It looks at whether you are eligible to claim, as well as looking in detail at the assessment process, including completing the questionnaire, the face-to-face consultation and how to appeal if you are unhappy with a decision.

The booklet includes a pull-out section with the descriptors used by the assessor when looking at your claim.

The booklet also refers to a template diary, which you can download here.

If you already receive DLA and want to know more about the changeover from DLA to PIP, see our factsheet on DLA to PIP
