Honey bee venom
Bee venom therapy is a type of 'apitherapy' - using of bees or bee products for medical conditions.
For bee venom therapy, bees can be placed on certain areas of the body with tweezers, for often 20 to 40 stings. Sometimes the venom is given with an injection or a gel.
The theory is that the body's reaction to the venom could have a positive effect for the immune system, not just in calming down the reaction on the skin.
Honey bee venom therapy and MS
There's little evidence that bee venom therapy works as a treatment for people with MS. And bee venom can cause dangerous allergic reactions.
A study in 2005 involving people with MS didn't show benefits for people having bee venom therapy.
Speak to your GP or MS team if you're thinking of trying it.
