We’re campaigning for a national plan for neurological conditions in England. Our campaign calls on the UK Government to introduce a Modern Service Framework (MSF) for neurological conditions.
There’s currently no long-term plan for neurological conditions in England. Through an MSF for neurological conditions, we can improve access to services, reduce emergency admissions, and reduce health complications.
Together, with The Neurological Alliance, we have launched an open letter to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care. We’re calling for a national plan for neurological conditions in England.
Currently, 1 in 6 children, young people and adults in England live with a neurological condition. This includes MS, Parkinson’s, epilepsy and motor neurone disease, among many others
Too many people are reaching a crisis point, resorting to A and E because they don’t have access to the right care soon enough. For many others, they must travel miles from where they live to access the services they need.
Why campaign for an MSF for neurological conditions?
Our campaign follows our work with The Neurological Alliance developing our case for support for an MSF for neurological conditions. We launched our joint report in March. Since then, we have shared our evidence with government. We’ve held discussions with the Department of Health and Social Care about why we need a plan for neurological conditions.
We're sharing an open letter to show the government that millions of people can't wait any longer for action. It's a chance for people with neurological conditions to add their voice to our joint call for a neurological plan now.
We’re ready to work with the UK Government to develop an MSF for neurological conditions, which could:
- improve access to the support and services that people with neurological conditions need to live well. With a target to reduce avoidable emergency hospital admissions by 30% by 2035.
- improve outcomes by tackling inconsistency across neurology services.
- improve access to services closer to home, reducing the burden of travel and making care more equitable.
- support more people with neurological conditions to live well, and to stay in work or education for longer. Neurological conditions cost the UK economy £96 billion every year in part due to gaps and delays in neurological care.
We're calling for improvements to the support, care and treatment of millions of people living with a neurological condition in England. Together, we can push for change.
