I signed up to the UK MS Register after recording its voiceover

Thu 08 December 2022

Last month, Dizzy and I were invited to record the voiceover for the MS Society’s animation about the UK MS Register.

I must admit, before this, my knowledge on the Register had been a little vague. I knew about its existence, and I had a letter from my local hospital in my ‘to-do-later-pile’ (it had been sitting there for at least a year…) asking me to join up.

Even with my limited knowledge, it was great to be approached by Ben, the MS Society’s media producer, to help out with this campaign. I'm an actor and drama teacher, so I love volunteering for projects like these.

Voicing what the Register is helping to achieve

The day itself was super exciting! We were recording at a studio in central London, which was very cosy and welcoming – they even had a cute little courtyard.

And although I managed to be late (there were a few stressful moments when my train was cancelled and all the following ones were delayed), we got all the material we needed with a little time to spare.

The voiceover itself involved talking about the MS Register, what it does and what it is helping to achieve.

The voiceover itself involved talking about the MS Register, what it does and what it is helping to achieve. I was amazed to discover that 17,000 people with MS are already a part of it! But not only is this research project helping MS researchers to discover more about MS, it also allows people with MS to keep track of their own journeys.

I got to read through the script three or four times before we had everything we needed. Dizzy even got to participate, and she got some great little snaps before we finished.

I’ve finally signed up the UK MS Register

As soon as I got home, I made sure to hop on the UK MS Register website to sign up, which only took a few minutes to do. I am now really happy to have finally taken this step. MS is still surrounded by unanswered questions, and it is great to know that I am doing something to help answer these.

If you have a few moments, make sure to watch the animation, which will give you an overview of why the MS Register is so important. You can also help make future breakthroughs possible by donating or signing up to the register yourself.

It’s something which is constantly working towards making a huge difference to the lives of everyone affected by MS.
