Beck is a short-form writer, and mum to a nine-year-old. She was diagnosed with relapsing remitting MS in 2007.
Beck says she took up writing in 2009 to "keep sane after having to finish work". She graduated with a first-class Masters degree in Creative Writing from the Open University in 2020.
