What is secondary progressive MS?
Secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (MS) is a stage of the condition which comes after – is secondary to – relapsing remitting MS. In other words, secondary progressive MS only occurs in people who have already had relapsing remitting MS.
It is possible to be diagnosed with this type of MS when you are first diagnosed with the condition – if the relapsing remitting phase of MS had never been identified – but this is rare. The following sections describe the particular features of secondary progressive MS in more detail.
