Why you should join our Electorate
We welcome everyone affected by MS to join our Electorate and vote for who sits on our Board. Read on to find out more about what our Electorate does and how to get involved.
Why do we have an Electorate?
Until 2020, if you were a member of the MS Society, you were invited to attend and vote at our Annual General Meeting. But over the years, fewer and fewer people chose to get involved in this way. In 2020, our members voted to change our legal structure. This means you can now decide how you engage with us and what information you receive. People affected by MS who are interested in voting can be part of our Electorate, while other people choose not to.
What does the Electorate do?
Each year, we hold an open recruitment round to find new Trustees to replace those who have reached the end of their term. Eight out of our 13 Trustees are elected, and we invite our Electorate to vote for which candidates to appoint.
How does the Electorate vote?
If you’ve given us permission to contact you by email, we’ll send you an email so you can vote online. If not, we’ll send you voting papers and a reply-paid envelope in the post. The candidate/s with the largest number of votes will join our Board of Trustees for three years.
Who is in the Electorate?
If you were a member of the MS Society before the end of 2020, you were automatically enrolled in our Electorate. You may also have signed up via our website.

When do I need to join by?
If you want to vote in this year’s Trustee elections, you need to join our Electorate by 31 October 2022. This year’s Trustee election is open from 31 October until 25 November 2022.
