Frances Whinder, Managing Editor, London

I came to the MS Society from a huge, international publishing house because I wanted make a difference every day, rather than simply making profit for shareholders.

What was it about the MS Society?

A close friend has a family member with MS, and she’s done a lot of fundraising for the MS Society. Knowing that she supports the charity was definitely something made me want to work here.

It’s fantastic to work with people who are smart, passionate, and knowledgeable. And above all, committed to making life better for people affected by MS. It’s a very supportive environment too – everyone looks out for each other.

What does a managing editor do?

I take the lead on writing and editing two of our flagship publications – our membership magazine, MS Matters, and our Annual Report. There’s a huge amount of creativity and expertise in the team and we work alongside Digital, so I feel like I’m learning a lot from the people around me.

Ultimately, we are producing fantastic content that informs, entertains, persuades and creates a sense of community. And that’s hugely satisfying.
