Reception at Downing Street for volunteers

Samantha Cameron kindly hosted a reception at No.10 Downing Street today to thank and recognise some of the people who have given their precious time, energy and commitment to the MS Society over the years. MS Society Volunteers and staff nominated people to attend from across the UK.

Organisation wide representation

We aimed to get as broad a representation of our volunteers as possible, including helpline volunteers, Council members, trustees and local volunteers from MS Society branches.

We took every precaution to make sure the event was accessible for everyone who was nominated. Happily, Downing Street is broadly accessible, so there were lifts available and a chair lift to allow access to the room.

Celebrating our volunteers

Today was not a political event, nor was it being held to fundraise and there were no members of the Conservative Government in attendance. This was an event to celebrate our volunteers. Downing Street was free, and we offered to pay for travel and accommodation for volunteers outside of London.
