Scotland’s National Care Service explained

The Scottish Government propose to launch a new National Care Service to deliver social care in Scotland by 2026. What would a National Care Service deliver? And how can you help shape it?

What is the National Care Service?

The Scottish Government commissioned an Independent Review of Adult Social Care.

The review’s findings were published in February 2021. One of the recommendations was to create a new National Care Service controlled by the Scottish Government. This would be responsible for social care throughout Scotland.

This National Care Service would improve the consistency of services and, by having common standards of care, raise the quality of services across the country.

The Scottish Government have now launched a consultation asking for feedback.

We’re holding a number of focus groups for people in Scotland with MS to share their views. This will help us to shape our consultation response.

How could this affect people living with MS?

People with MS need and deserve a social care system that works. The Scottish Government has the opportunity to deliver meaningful reform to social care in Scotland.

If a National Care Service was successfully implemented, it should remove the postcode lottery in accessing support. Ensuring everyone in Scotland would have access to high quality services, no matter where they live.
