October 2017 - reaching MPs
Together, we emailed 91% of MPs in England about the #CareCrisis. We called on the Government to publish the social care consultation (Green Paper) and told them people with MS of all ages should be included – not just older people.
October 2017 - Government commits to a Green Paper
The Government committed to a social care Green Paper and said they’d work on plans for ‘working-age’ (under 65s) at the same time. They asked us to work with them on plans for ‘working-age’ people.
November 2017 - we launch our report
People with MS met with MPs in Westminster to talk about how the #CareCrisis affects them. We also launched our End the Care Crisis Report, which called on the Government to ‘build a sustainable [social care] system for adults of all ages.
February 2018 - Liz speaks to MPs
Liz Abrahams, a carer for her husband Neil who has MS, spoke to MPs in Westminster about the need to support carers in employment. She also called on the Government to include carers in their social care plans.
March 2018 - the Big Social Care Survey
Over 4,000 people, including 250 people affected by MS, responded to the Big Social Care Survey about their experiences of the #CareCrisis and why it needs to end now.
May 2018 - voices from the care crisis
We published the Voices from the Care Crisis report in coalition with 80 other charities – based on the responses to the Big Social Care Survey, including people with MS. This featured in local and national news.
June 2018 - the open letter
12,581 people signed an open letter from a coalition of 80 charities, to Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Jeremy Hunt. Together we called on Jeremy Hunt to make plans to improve social care for people of all ages – not just for older people (over 65) as planned.
July 2018 - a Green Paper for all
New Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock, committed to ‘a comprehensive Green Paper on social care in the autumn’ and a ‘Green Paper for all’ – not just older people.
September 2018 - meeting the Care Minister
