Meet the Team in WalesJoanna Ridley (Service Development Manager), Sue Lloyd (Service Development Officer), and Andrea Howard (Project Coordinator) make up the Service development Team in Wales. ![]() Jo has been with the MS Society since 1994, in a range of different roles, including Grants Manager, Service Development Manager (developing our healthcare standards and Measuring Success Toolkit), Carers Programme Manager, and now Service Development Manager for Wales. Jo works closely with Sue Lloyd and the MS Cymru Council, to take forward plans to improve services provision in Wales for people affected by MS.
Sue Lloyd, Service Development OfficerSue has been with the MS Society since June, 2000, when she worked as Regional Support Co-ordinator(RSC) within the Branch & Regional Support Directorate. In 2005 there was some re-organisation within the MS Society, which resulted in the splitting of the RSC role into Health and Social Care work & branch and regional committee support work. Sue is now based within the Research and Services Department as part of the Service Development Team. Her new role enables her to focus her efforts on working proactively to bring about improvements to the services provided by statutory, voluntary and independent providers of health and social care to people affected by MS. This involves working within the Service Development Team at the National Centre to use the resources of the MS Society to lever change to meet national guidelines and with MS Cymru. Sue reports to and works with the Service Development Manager (RSDM), Joanna Ridley, who is also the national lead for the carers programme. Andrea Howard, MS Carers Network Wales, Project Coordinator Andrea is the newest member of the Service Development Team and her role is to develop MS Carers Network Wales, a new telephone and email befriending service for isolated carers of people with MS across Wales. Andrea works part time but is keen to hear from carers who would like to find out about becoming a befriender volunteer, or who are feeling isolated and would like to benefit from the service.
Sue Jones, Local Support Development OfficerAs Local Support Development Officer (LSDO) for Wales, I provide direct support to branches and volunteers. Reporting to our Executive Officer, Leigh Jeffes, I work from home and much of my time is spent ‘out and about’ meeting with branch volunteers and helping them to achieve the Branch Essentials which will ensure that people affected by MS are provided with the same level of services and support throughout Wales. I also run training days such as Providing Support, an introduction for new MS Support Officers, and Welcome Aboard for new branch committee members, and am involved in organising Newly Diagnosed Days in conjunction with the medical professionals involved in the treatment of MS. My background is 16 years with The Stroke Association and after five years out of the medical charity field being a carer for my Mother. I am thrilled and excited about my role with MS Society Wales/Cymru. I am sure that being a carer over the last few years has given me a new understanding of the issues carers face and I look forward to bringing that to my work with branches and volunteers. The role of the branch has changed over the last few years and there are many unique challenges for branches in Wales due, in part, to scattered population and geography but I am sure that through MS Society Wales/Cymru, Local Area Networks and working in partnership with other organisations, we will be able to achieve our goal of helping all people who are affected by MS in Wales. |
