Caring Counts

Caring Counts consists of two work strands. The first is to produce a Carers Directory unique to Wales, signposting carers to sources of support both locally and nationally. The second is to set up a Telephone Befriending service.

Just below you will find downloadable versions of the Carers Directory, English and Welsh versions, giving details of support services across Wales.

Updates: If you notice that any of the details within the directory have become out-of-date, please do contact us so that we can update the information we have.

Our work with carers has shown us that many feel very isolated and simply do not know where to turn for information and support. The Carers Directory has been developed to support branch volunteers and those involved with MS Carers Network Wales in their support of carers.

With details of carers' services in each locality within Wales it is a tool that can be updated regularly, as and when changes take place. If you are a carer wanting to know more about local support services, please contact your local branch to find out more.

Wales has a high number of geographically and socially isolated carers. For carers living in rural areas, maintaining friendships can be extremely difficult. We have introduced a telephone befriending service for Wales, putting isolated carers in contact, on a one-to-one basis, with other carers who can provide advice and support… and that little bit of friendship needed when life gets stressful.

Telephone befriending can link up individuals who live far apart and allow individuals who are restricted to home, to volunteer themselves. For many carers, this can be the first step towards developing the skills and confidence to find future employment.
