Risk Sharing Update (April 2004)
This is the second update on progress of the risk Sharing Scheme in Wales.
South Wales
There has been great progress in South Wales with the appointment of:- Cardiff:
- 4 MS nurses
- 1 neuro-physiotherapist
- 1 consultant neurologist
- Swansea (Morriston Hospital)
- 2 Full time MS nurses
- 1 part time nurse (still to take up post)
- 1 physiotherapist
- 1 Neurologist (still to be appointed)
Prescribing in Cardiff is on track, but there are difficulties in putting the necessary infrastructure in place.
North Wales
Although prescribing has never been a problem in North Wales and the scheme was quickly up and running, the extra allocation of funding for the scheme has not been forthcoming.
Drug costs have been met, but there has been no access to funds needed to implement the Business Plan. We are assured by the Health & Social Care Minister, Jane Hutt, that the money has been distributed and clearly 'badged', but hasn't been used for this scheme in North Wales
National Focus
MS Cymru has been in talks with Assembly representatives and staff from Health Commission Wales in an attempt to resolve the issue in North Wales and we are hopeful that money has been allocated for 2004-5.
