Staying Motivated

How do you keep motivated?
When your training has been going on for a few weeks and you’re starting to get fed up of seeing the same old roads and pacing the treadmill, how do you keep motivated? Has the enthusiasm you first felt now dropped off and you are starting to feel like your training is monotonous?  If so, don’t worry! Everyone has those feelings so we have included tips on how to stay motivated.

Run with someone else- Training with someone else is a really great way of keeping yourself and your training partner motivated. Then, when you have earned it, you can go for a drink as a treat- orange juice of course! If you would like to train with another MS Superstar, why not post a message on our forum on the website or contact one of the events team.

It’s a really good idea to keep a training diary to remind you what you were like when you started and how far you have come. You can then look back and remember the days you could barely run for ten minutes and now you can run for over an hour!

Treat yourself- Set yourself realistic goals and make sure you reward yourself. It might be with a new top or trainers or a relaxing massage.

A change is as good as a rest- Vary your routine by cycling, swimming, doing an exercise class or even vary your running route. These really improve your fitness and it’s great to have a change rather than the same old route.

Get some inspiration- Positive Mental Attitude is very important when doing long distance running. You really need to believe you can complete it so look at inspirational stories in running magazines, share your ideas and top tips online with other runners and remember that training really does pay off.

Finally, if you are still lacking motivation, remember who you are running for, a friend, a loved one or everyone affected by MS!
