The Final Stretch!

This period leading up to the race is when a lot of injuries can occur so it’s even more important to be extra careful.

Don’t forget stretching! It really makes a difference if you stretch both before and after your training and even on the days you don’t train. This has the effect of reducing the risk of you pulling or straining muscles; which could mean you wont be able to complete the run.

Don’t worry if you haven’t run the whole distance before the actual day, the crowd and your own adrenaline will take you the last few miles. Continue increasing your distance gradually in training – if you take a big leap just to complete the distance in training, you could cause an injury.

Keep practicing drinking water and sports drinks as you train because this could reduce the chance of you getting a stitch and will keep you hydrated.

Finally have fun! With all the training you have been doing, you really deserve to get out there and enjoy it. Give yourself something to aim for at the end of the race such as a pint, big box of chocolates or a loved one.
