How many members of one family are allowed to sit on the same branch committee?
Branch committees can include two, but no more than two, members of the same family. This includes spouses or partners, parents, children, siblings and first-degree relations by marriage (i.e. brothers- and sisters-in-law).
The rules also state, however, that no more than one member of a family can be authorised as co-signatory for cheques or any other official documents on behalf of the branch.
While many committees contain two members of a family, and there is absolutely no problem with this, it is certainly worth bearing in mind that committee work should be done in committee – and not in a sub-committee of two over breakfast! Also, two committee members who know exactly what the other thinks and always support each other can be quite intimidating to others. However it has to be said that experience shows that this is far from always the case….!
