Data Protection Online

Read the MS Society's Online Data Protection Statement.

As email addresses now come under the data protection act, are there any regulations we have to comply with?

The data protection act was recently extended to cover email addresses.

Only add someone to a distribution list if they have requested it and make sure you include a tagline detailing how a person can unsubscribe, making sure you act on requests to subscribe or unsubscribe quickly. It may help to keep a record of all requests. If you use cookies on your website, or collect personal information through your website, you must have policies on the website to say how this personal data will be handled.

Most importantly, and this applies to all personal information, information should not be sold or given to anyone outside of the MS Society without the permission of the people whose details you're passing on.

Email Local Support to find out how data protection affects your branch, or take a look at the Data Protection and Confidentiality section of the branch handbook.
