What are the current time-served rules for Branch Chairs?

At the Society's AGM in 2003 a change was made to the rules regarding the terms of office for Branch Chairs. Chairs are now elected for three-year terms instead of one-year terms and can be elected for two consecutive three-year terms only, then they will have to stand down for at least one year.

When you elect someone new as Branch Chair they will be elected for a term of three years.

Therefore:

  • If you elected someone new as Branch Chair in 2007, they don't need to stand for re-election until April 2010.

  • If they became Chair in 2008 they will need to be re-elected in April 2011.

  • New Chairs elected this year (2009) don't have to stand again until April 2012.

When a Branch Chair has been in post for six years they must stand down at the next branch AGM.
