Donna's story

I was honest with my new boyfriend from the start about the possibility of having MS. It didn't faze him in the slightest, which I thought was great at the time. It's only now I realise it didn't faze him because he didn't know anything at all about the disease.

I've since been diagnosed with Benign MS which I took better than I expected I would, but my boyfriend still doesn't seem interested in learning anything about it. It does worry me sometimes, as we're getting married next year. He doesn't seem to understand that I tire more easily than most, and as much as he says he'll help out round the house, he never does. It's me that works 6 days a week, then comes home to cook the dinner, do the cleaning, and washing and take the dog out.

I'd be lying if I said it didn't get to me at times. But that said I'm sure a lot of people go through the same as I'm going through. I've tried giving him leaflets to read on MS and such like, but he really isn't interested. I think he thinks that as long as I'm not classed as disabled; everything is fine!

I know he loves me, as I love him, but I don't think I'll ever stop worrying that one day he'll wake up and realise this thing that I've got, won't just disappear. I don't know how he'll react! I just have to hope and pray that when it happens, he takes it all in his stride, just like I did!
