Helen Ley Court
Helen Ley Court is a purpose built 10 bedded residential Unit for people with multiple sclerosis between the ages of 20 and 60. The unit is set in the countryside of Warwickshire, close to Leamington Spa
Each of the self-contained studio apartments has an en suite bathroom and a kitchenette. Residents are supported to manage their studio apartment, and to prepare and cook meals in their kitchenette if they wish in the knowledge that the Court also has facilities to provide meals for those days when a resident doesn’t wish or is not able to be independent in this area.
The staff are highly trained to manage the care needs of people with MS and their focus is on an individual’s abilities rather than disabilities. They are sensitive to the desire of individuals to remain as independent as their condition will permit, and provide support and encouragement as appropriate. Dignity and sense of self is paramount in all decisions negotiated with a person regarding the level of support required. The Court is well supported by health care professionals including the district nursing team.
Staff will happily support an individual to follow any interests or hobbies, and Court residents are able to access the evening social activities put on by the neighbouring Helen Ley Respite Centre.
Residents are asked to take part in the decision-making on the day to day running of the Court, and to help interview and appoint new staff.
