Carers' course: Looking after Me
'Looking after Me' is a self management course for adults who care for someone living with a long-term health condition.
It's about carers making time to look after their own health needs and covers relaxation techniques, dealing with tiredness, exercise, healthy eating, coping with depression and planning for the future.
Like the mainstream self management course, it's led by trained tutors who themselves have experience of caring for an adult. The course is run over six weeks, with a half day session each week, and is free of charge.
Some Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) in England organise 'Looking after Me' courses. To find out whether one is available in your area, contact the Expert Patient Programme (EPP) lead in your PCT or your local carers' organisation or visit the EPP Community Interest Company website
