Symptom Relief Research Initiative
One of the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s key goals is to help give people with multiple sclerosis (MS) more control and choice over what happens to them. People with MS have told us that one of the most important issues that affects the quality of their everyday life is living with the unpredictable and often distressing symptoms of MS.
As well as our world class research into the 'cause and cure' of MS, people with MS have told us they want treatments to help improve the quality of their lives now.
The MS Society has begun a new initiative to raise money to fund research into symptom relief. The aim is to raise £2.5million over the next three years to fund projects in this vital area.
MS can cause a wide variety of symptoms. To date, symptom relief is an area of research which has been under-explored. Our priority is to maximise the amount of research funding spent in this area so that ultimately therapies and treatments might be designed which allow people affected by MS to have more control over their symptoms.
To kick-start this initiative the MS Society has already funded five projects into symptom relief.
The Symptom Relief Research Initiative will be launched at the beginning of October 2007 with an introductory DVD which will be sent to the MS Branches. This DVD will introduce the need for symptom relief and then show 5-9 minute information pieces on each of the five projects already funded by the Society.
