View GRP1 members - GRP2 is Chaired by Professor Irene Higginson and is responsible for the evaluation of "applied" and evolving MS services research. In this context, applied research uses advances in scientific knowledge and methods to explore, discover and test potential ways to prevent, improve symptoms and quality of life for people affected by MS at all stages of the condition. It includes health and social care research, clinical trials and other well designed studies to understand, measure or evaluate specific problems or needs.

Each Panel comprises experts within the field of MS research, members of the Society’s Research Network (people affected by MS)and members of the Executive.
Grant applications will be subject to external peer review and applied applications will also be reviewed by people affected by MS. The relevant Grant Review Panel will then evaluate the scientific merit and relevance to MS of all applications, in light of reviewers comments and their own expertise.
The role of each Grant Review Panel is to make recommendations of the highest scientific quality research to the Society's Board of Trustees for final funding decisions.
If the Panel judge that an application could be amended in order to make them more suitable for funding, the applicant will be notified and feedback provided. Notified applicants will be invited to address the highlighted points in a covering letter and resubmitted application.
Resubmitted applications will be reviewed again by the relevant Grant Review Panel and those judged to have addressed the points raised will be recommended to the Board of Trustees for final funding decision.
