Funding in 2008

Please note in 2008 the MS Society will not be inviting Outline Proposals (Full Proposals only).

Research applications in 2008 may be submitted to any of the Society's funding streams:
  • Themed strand
  • Open strand
  • Evolving MS Services Research strand

In line with the Society's research strategy, funding is expected, in the main, to be prioritised for the two key areas of research identified within the themed strand.

Themed Strand

Two priority themes for research funding have been identified by researchers in the MS field and people affected by MS. These are:
  • Mechanisms of nerve damage, repair and protection
  • Symptom relief research

Applications are welcomed under these two themes.

Open Strand

The Society welcomes applications in any area of research relevant to MS, as part of the Open strand. However, please note that in line with the Society's research strategy, funding is expected to be prioritised for applications within the themed strand (see above).

Evolving MS Services Research strand

Research projects funded under the Evolving Services Programme are aimed at developing services for people with MS which are evidence-based and economically viable. It is expected that any research proposals will demonstrate how this will happen.

Applicants are encouraged to submit studies which can be completed within two years from ethics approval.

The following priorities have been identified as themes:
