Research Matters 3rd Edition

The third edition of ‘Research Matters’ provides an overview of the current developments in MS research, including information about the MS Society’s own research programmes and projects.

What causes MS?

‘It is understandable that people with MS want to know why they have developed the condition, but the cause of MS remains uncertain and no single causal factor has been identified. Instead it is increasingly clear that a combination of genetic and environmental factors act to increase a person’s susceptibility to developing MS.’

The MS Society/University of Edinburgh Translational Research Centre

‘Based at Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary, the Centre is an exciting and innovative development in the world of MS research. People with MS have experienced first hand the advantages of multidisciplinary working in their hospital teams; now MS researchers will too.’

Evolving MS Services

‘One effect of MS that can’t be treated with drugs is the loss of independence. To try to tackle this, the MS Society is setting up a range of projects under its ‘Evolving MS Services’ to help people with MS have access to the best possible services to improve their quality of life.’
