Study to assess physical/motor activity in patients with Multiple Sclerosis
Researchers at Queen Mary, University of London are looking for individuals to take part in a study to assess physical/motor activity in people with Multiple Sclerosis.
Participants will wear a wrist/ankle worn electronic device (Actiwatch®) that measures and records physical movement to compare the activity monitor against the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS).
You will be asked to attend a clinic appointment at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, where a neurologist will then perform the Expanded Disability Status Scale assessments.
At the same visit you will then be asked to see the research nurse, who will administer the following assessments; a timed 25 foot walk, the 9 hole peg test and the MS Walking Scale.
During visit 1 you will be asked to wear the Actiwatch® either on your dominant wrist or ankle. At visit 2 the Actiwatch® will be removed. You will be expected to wear the Actiwatch® 24 hours a day for a period of one week.
Both assessments will occur as two visits a week apart, give or take a few days. Each visit will last approximately 2 hours in total. You will be seen in the Neurology Clinical Trials Unit, 4th floor, Holland Wing, The Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, London, E1 1BB.
Please download and read the attached Patient Information sheet. If you are interested in participating in the study, or have any questions regarding the study, then please contact:
