31st Brenda Dunnington Memorial Walk

The Annual Sponsored Walk took place on May 10th
On a fine summer's Day, a group of about 20 set off from the Ivanhoe Hotel in Spotbrough, led by Ernie Grace of the Selby Fellwalking Club. Sir Walter Scott is alleged to have written "Ivanhoe" in this village. Walkers were sponsored for this 10 mile walk.

We walked across fields along a clear footpath and a minor road to Melton Woods where we stopped for "coffee" in a central clearing in great comfort with benches.

We then walked across a field of rape, emerging covered in pollen and sneezing, and walked on to Hickleton, the home of the Halifax family. Then onwards to Harlington, over the River Dearne and through a Nature reserve beside the Dearne, where we stopped for our picnic lunch.

We passed the now closed Earth Centre, and onwards towards the River Don with fine views of Conisbrough Castle and the Conisbrough Viaduct.
We descended to the River Don and walked along its bank through woods and a Bird Sanctuary to Spotbrough and returned to the Ivanhoe Hotel for a well deserved drink.

The weather was hot (about 25C) and there was not a breath of wind!

The total raised will be announced as soon as the final total has been received.
