Start date 28/06/2009
Location Hinchingbrooke Country Park
The Wheel & Walk at Hinchingbrooke Country Park took place in glorious sunshine. About 140 people took part in the event on three routes of 2 miles, 3 miles and 6 miles. The crowd were entertained by a local band and display majorettes while there was a barbecue, bouncy castle, face painting and numerous stalls run by the local MS Society branches. There were also guest appearances by gymnast Louis Smith, who won a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics, Jonathan Djanogly, MP for Huntingdon, and Saeed Akhtar, mayor of Huntingdon.
The MS Society would like to thank Tony Collett for organising Wheel & Walk at Hinchingbrooke Country Park. Tony's hard work made this a fantastic event and everybody at the MS Society is extremely grateful for his support.
MS Sail Presentation

On Thursday 9th April, three of the branch’s sailing members were at the “Woolverstone Project” on Alton Water near Ipswich to hand over the MS sail on behalf of the Bury St Edmunds branch.
The sail was on a new 2 seater sailing dinghy given to the project by Rosemary Olson in memory of her husband Nigel. The branch had donated the remainder of the monies left to the branch by Arthur Veale to enable our members to enjoy the sport of sailing. Jeanette Weaver and Rosemary Olson christened the boat in the traditional way with some suitable alcohol, watched by members of the project and branch members Penny Ferrier and Ruth Hammond all of whom are longing to take the boat out and put her through her paces!
If sailing is something you would like to try (with a fully qualified instructor) contact the support team. Please remember that you will need to be accompanied by a helper/carer especially if you rely on walking aids or a wheelchair.
Try it ... it’s fun!!!

Location Cambridge

Darren has made a parachute jump to raise money for our region.
He has to date raised over £700 for the Regional Committee to enable us to develop sources and information for people who work with MS. His mother works for Suffolk County Council and has inspired him to jump for the MS Society. Darren and Janet want workers with MS to have better information about aids and adaptations, how to work with the DWP Access to Work Scheme, what your employer can be doing to make reasonable adjustments, and how to adjust to be a disabled person in the workplace.
We are proud to announce that we have access to an office at the Disability Resource Centre, 4 Bunting Road, Moreton Hall Estate, Bury St Edmunds.
From here we will be available to help with almost anything from benefit queries to grant applications.
To start with we will be open between 10am and 2pm every Thursday.
