New combination treatment shows promise in very active RRMS
18 Jul 2006
Encouraging results from a new combination treatment for people with very active relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) are about to be published by a research team at the Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Liverpool.
The team used mitoxantrone (an immunosuppressant drug normally used in cancer) and Glatiramer acetate (Copaxone) in a study of 27 patients with RRMS and reported a significant reduction in relapses and some stabilisation of disability.
Their encouraging results are due to be published in the August issue of the Journal of Neurology.
A full controlled study is now being launched at 10 centres across the UK. If you would like to take part, visit www.mxga-mstrial.co.uk to see if you are eligible.
