MS Society cleans up at science communication Oscars
The MS Society has swept the board at the Association of Medical Research Charities' (AMRC) 2007 Science Communication Awards, reinforcing our position as a leading provider of MS research information.
Our website won the overall science communication award, and the 'charity research information online' award. Our MS Essential on Muscle spasms and stiffness won 'best patient information leaflet'. And our flagship research publication, Research Matters - now in its third edition - came out top in the design category and was narrow runner-up in the 'research report for a non-expert audience'. More4Me, our national programme to involve people with MS in improving care services, was shortlisted in the 'patient and public involvement' category [web editor note: sorry, information on this is now out of date].
Head of research and information Lee Dunster said: "This is fantastic news. We go to great lengths to try to make sure we communicate about our research work as clearly and effectively as possible, and the judges at the AMRC have recognised that.
"Our Essentials and publications like Research Matters depend on input from MS experts and from volunteers, and we couldn't have achieved this without their generous contributions - both in time and in knowledge.
"But we're not going to rest on our laurels. Communication technology is moving forward in leaps and bounds, and we want to make sure we offer access to the best MS research information in every way that people affected by MS want."
This award comes hot on the heels of Monday's triumph for MS Society Helpline volunteer Dorothy Sutton (see related news), who was named Helpline Volunteer of the Year.
Simon Gillespie, chief executive, added: "This rounds off a great week for us. The quality of both our professional and volunteer work has been recognised at the highest level."
