Vacuum in Government disability rights strategy, says DRC

There is a vacuum at the heart of the Government's strategy of disability rights, says the chief executive of the Disability Rights Commission in a letter to voluntary organisations.
He says the DRC has learned a Bill expected in the next session of parliament has been put back. It would have extended rights to cover transport and housing and placed a duty on the public sector to promote disability equality in the same way as racial equality. "Much hard-won goodwill is now at risk," said Bob Niven. He added there was a danger that the Government's lack of action would be viewed by disabled people as a "breach of faith."
