Draft guidance published on DFGs
10 Feb 2003
The Government has announced an £11m increase in next year's Disabled Facilities Grant budget, taking it to £99m. DFGs, which are allocated through local authorities, pay for essential adaptations to provide better access into and within the home.
Housing Minister, Tony McNulty, said, "The delivery of a first class housing adaptations service by councils requires close co-operation between all support services. The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Health Department have produced draft guidance on how this can be achieved by drawing on research into existing best practice."
The grants are a mandatory entitlement for eligible applicants, although they are means tested to ensure resources are targeted on those with greatest need.
The draft guidance documents are available on the ODPM housing website under 'Housing Adaptations for Disabled People' at: www.housing.odpm.gov.uk/information/index17.htm
