Itinerary

Your trek begins in Cusco, where you are offered the first taste of the Inca world.

The next morning you'll head out to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a wide fertile valley that was the empire's agricultural heartland.

Following the Urubamba River, you continue to Ollantaytambo, a living Inca town. You continue along the Cusichacha River, slowly ascending into the mountains until you reach Llulluchapampa, with Mt. Huayanay providing a wonderful backdrop.

Day 6 is long and hard as you have three high passes to cross.

What goes up most some down, and so your descent pushes towards the final destination, the lost city of Machu Picchu.

Highlights of the trek include:

  • Cusco with its fascinating mix of Inca and Spanish Colonial architecture.
  • Ollantaytambo, a living Inca town, surrounded by terraces dominated by a ridge-top sun temple.
  • Explore the extensive ruins of Q'ente.
  • Enjoy wonderful views of Mt. Huayanay, a five-pronged capped peak.
  • The ruins of Runkurukay and Sayacmarca.
  • Spend a full day exploring the lost city of Machu Picchu.
