FAQ's
What is a Cake Break?Cake Break is a simple fundraising event that raises money for the MS Society. All you need to do is gather a group of friends, family or colleagues, supply cakes and refreshments and watch as the plates empty and the donation box fills. It is similar to holding a coffee morning but the emphasis is on the cakes and you can do it at any time during the day.
How do I organise a Cake Break?Register for your Cake Break host pack, it contains all you need to organise your event – all you need to do then is decide who to invite and what cakes to supply!
Register here for your Cake Break host packWhen do I hold my Cake Break?Cake Break day is Friday 25 April which is in MS Awareness Week. However if you cannot hold one on this date then you can choose another that suits you.
Where do I hold my Cake Break? You can hold your cake break anywhere that allows people to be gathered together. It can be at home or work, at a local community hall or sports centre or at a local school. Just make sure you ask permission or book if necessary.
How do I raise money from Cake Break?People will usually be happy to make a donation for attending and enjoying the Cake Break you organise but make sure people are aware of how their donation will make a difference. This is particularly important because it is MS Awareness Week and it may also urge people to donate more. To help you we have supplied a factsheet about the MS Society to display or distribute for your guests to read.
To help raise more funds you can use the game we have supplied in the host pack or try out some of the fun ideas we have suggested.
Don’t forget to ask them to Gift Aid their donation too!
What is the Gift Aid Sheet for?Put simply, it makes the donation worth more at no extra cost to you or the donor! The MS Society can claim extra money directly from HMRC (the taxman!) but to do this we must have a completed Gift Aid form.
Why not get a friend or relative to be in charge of passing the Gift Aid sheet around and making sure your donors fill it in correctly.

Do I buy or make the cakes? The choice is yours! Homemade cakes are always a winner so you might want to try out your culinary skills or try the recipes we have provided; you could even ask people attending to contribute. Alternatively you can buy the cakes if you are short on time. In both cases please ensure that you take into account any possible allergies and abide by the health and safety regulations we recommend.
Where do I send the money I raise? We have supplied a donation return form with your host pack but don’t worry if you have lost it. Simply bank the money you have raised into your own account and then send us a cheque made payable to the MS Society and return along with a covering note with your contact details to Cake Break, MS Society National Centre, 372 Edgware Road, London NW2 6ND.
If you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us on 0870 241 3565.
