MS Walk Derbyshire
60 miles to celebrate 60 years
A walk from the top to the bottom of Derbyshire
To celebrate the 60th anniversary year of the MS Society, The Derby and District branch are organising a 60 mile (and a bit) walk through Derbyshire starting at the most northerly point and finishing at the most southerly.
We believe this will be the first time anyone has ever set a route to cover the entire length of the county so, if you enjoy a challenge and want to be part of a team making a little bit of history, sign up today and help us raise much needed funds to support those affected by MS in Derbyshire.
Register before 15 September to secure your place. Need more information before you register? Please feel free to contact walk organise Peter Milner via email@example.com or 07973 329 420.
If you can't make the walk but would like to sponsor those taking part, you can kindly donate to the event at www.justgiving.com/mswalkderbyshire. You can also text to donate by sending 'DRBY60' followed by the amount you want to give to 70070.
Day 1 We will meet at Sid's Cafe in Holmfirth for breakfast before setting off along the Pennine Way, heading south to cross Black Hill and Bleaklow. We'll cover approximately 14 miles before finishing at Snake Pass.
Day 2 Continuing along the Pennine Way, we climb to Kinder Scout and then down into Edale before climbing once again to finish in Peak Forest after around 12 miles.
Day 3 We will leave Peak Forest and after picking up the Limestone Way, arrive in Winster after walking approximately 19 miles.
Day 4 From Winster, we drop down to Cromford leaving the Limestone Way behind us and now join the Derwent Heritage Trail. We'll head south for Derby and the MS Derby & District Activity Centre, a distance of some 20miles. There will be time to celebrate walking over 60 miles and say goodbye to people finishing the challenge here.
(Optional) Day 5 For those wishing to complete an additional stage and to complete the walk over the full length of Derbyshire, just another 18 miles will take us to Netherseal to mark our finish by the grave of Sir Nigel Gresley – a true Derbyshire legend. We will by then have covered almost 85 miles and enjoy a well deserved photo finish!
Registration is £50 and will cover costs such as your breakfast on Day 1, insurance and your certificate. This does not cover accommodation and food. You are welcome to join us for just a few days of the walk instead of the whole event but please note, the registration fee will remain at £50.
All walkers must raise a minimum sponsorship of £75. Upon registering you will be sent a registration pack with everything you need to help you reach this target. Plus you'll have fundraising help along the way should you need it.
All walkers must be experienced to take part and need to complete and return a health questionnaire before you start. Walkers are expected to provide their own means of transport to and from each stage. In the event of difficulty, we may be able to arrange transport amongst volunteers so please let us know if this might be required. At the end of each stage, it is your choice as to whether you return home each evening or make plans to stay overnight nearby. The registration pack will include further information and details of available accommodation for Stages 1, 2 & 3.
All sponsorship raised will go towards the Derby and District Branch unless you request otherwise.
If you have any questions or would like some more information on the walk and a full walk itineray, please contact walk organiser Peter Milner via firstname.lastname@example.org or 07973 329 420.
