NICE guidelines - the basics:
- Clear, evidence based recommendations on managing all aspects of MS in the NHS, brought together for the first time in one document.
- Give people with MS a clearer idea of what to expect from the NHS, outline best practice in managing MS and offer a blueprint for commissioning organisations on best ways to organise complex services.
- Apply in England and Wales only, but add weight to the MS Society's campaign to get similar standards for services in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
- People with MS and representatives from the MS Society have worked together with other 'experts' to develop them.
- Closely mirror our own standards of healthcare.
- Won't mean that improved services happen automatically but will be a useful tool to push for MS service development.
