MP's Support NICE MS Guidelines

Find out about the Meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group for MS, which asked if these guidelines are a blueprint for better MS services?

NICE MS Guidelines

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence has published guidelines on the Management of MS. These guidelines are very good news for people with MS, professionals and those planning MS services.

NICE guidelines - the basics:

  • Clear, evidence based recommendations on managing all aspects of MS in the NHS, brought together for the first time in one document.

  • Give people with MS a clearer idea of what to expect from the NHS, outline best practice in managing MS and offer a blueprint for commissioning organisations on best ways to organise complex services.

  • Apply in England and Wales only, but add weight to the MS Society's campaign to get similar standards for services in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

  • People with MS and representatives from the MS Society have worked together with other 'experts' to develop them.

  • Closely mirror our own standards of healthcare.

  • Won't mean that improved services happen automatically but will be a useful tool to push for MS service development.
