Your care, your choice

Self Directed Support (SDS) is about allowing people who receive care to choose and manage their support.

SDS measures - such as Direct Payments - have the potential to be life-changing, yet take-up is patchy. Those who use SDS often have difficulties navigating the system or getting their local authority to apply SDS flexibly.

We're fighting for:

  • greater awareness of SDS, particularly in rural areas
  • more flexible, creative administration of SDS so that people can make meaningful choices.

What we're doing:

  • working with the Scottish government to ensure that the voices of people with MS are heard when developing and implementing this policy.
  • working with MSPs to ensure the Social Care (Self Directed Support) Bill takes into account the needs of people affected by MS

Take action

On 1 March 2012 the government introduced the Social Care (Self Directed Support) Bill into the Scottish Parliament.

The Bill proposes that all local authorities must offer people four choices about how they would like to receive their care.

We want to know what you think about the Bill! Find out more information and share your thoughts on our survey. Please respond no later than 20 April.
