Hi ALL
I have question  to ask.

I am 43 years old healthy female started relationship with 47 years old man who is suffering with MS for 20 years. We are sexualy active with no contraception..

Resently, after 9 month of relationship he suffered relapse of his illness..:(  Endup on drip with high dose of steroids..

Also he is on Copaxone (is an immunomodulator drug currently used to treat multiple sclerosis. It is a random polymer of four amino acids found in myelin basic protein, namely glutamic acid, lysine, alanine, and tyrosine, and may work as a decoy for the immune system. )

Same time, 9 month into our relationship, suddenly, seems like I am developing symptoms of acute rheumatoid arthritis..
I am going through various tests at the moment and it will take time to confirm diagnosis. Meanwhile I am absolutly in agony with swollen joints unexplained nature..

I am just wondering if my condition has been affected by my boyfriends illness?? Or is it just bad luck?

I am posting the same post on RA forum..

As MS and RA both Autoimmune Diseases..??

Many thanks
julsie

Hi alexa,

There are lots off things you can catch through unprotected sex but ms is definitely not one off them. Julsiexx

Unless you actually took some of his medication then no, it won't affect you. Me and my boyfriend have been together 10 years, never used condoms, I've been on immune suppressants or steroids for 2 of those years, and he's fine! You're just unlucky I'm afraid.

There is absolutely no way that you can catch an auto-immune disease through contact with an MSer or his meds.

There is also no way he can catch RA from you.
