The Role of Social Care Professionals
Social Care professionals play an essential role in supporting people living with MS to maintain their independence and continue enjoying the life of their choosing. From hands on carers to commissioners; professionals working in the statutory, voluntary and independent sectors can all make a difference to lives of people with MS through the delivery of high quality, person centred services.
The onset of a long-term condition can be a life changing event and for many people will provide them with their first experience of the complexities of our health, welfare and social care systems. Many are faced with a realisation that the support services they want are either not available at all, not open to them, or have charges. For possibly the first time in their lives, these individuals face the reality that their life as a disabled person may be very different. Their experience of social care can be an equally life changing event; dependent on the skills of the professionals they meet, and the availability and quality of services in their area.
