Bursaries available
Do you need help with your course fees?
Bursaries are limited and are paid on a first-come first-served basis.
How to apply for a bursary
Many students on Leeds Metropolitan University & Birmingham City University/MS Society courses are sponsored by their employers and receive full or part funding for the payment of the course fee, but there are some who have to meet the full cost of the course themselves.
The MS Society offers bursaries to people who wish to study the following courses:
- Professional Diploma in Multiple Sclerosis Care
- MS Care in the Community
- Postgraduate courses at Leeds Metropolitan
- BSc Specialist Practice Module in Health and Social Care at Birmingham City University.
Bursaries are available to health and social care professionals who are actively involved in MS care, who have to fund the course fee themselves in whole or in part, and are members of the Society's MS Professional Network (or are willing to join).
Bursaries are available to a limited number of students and will meet up to half the course fee, and are at the discretion of the Society.
If you wish to apply for a MS Society bursary you should write to the Society at the address below. Your letter must be on employer headed notepaper and include the following:
- Full contact details – name, address (work, home or both – state which for correspondence purposes), place of work, job title, telephone number(s), e-mail address
- How much of your work involves people affected by MS. A breakdown of your case-load would be helpful
- Details of any bursary previously applied for/received from the MS Society (amount, date, course of study)
- Confirmation that you are not in receipt of full fee funding from another source
- Confirmation that you are a member of the Society's MS Professional Network. If you are not already a member, please join online by going to www.mssociety.org.uk/profs
- A statement of how you expect your study to advance your personal development and career in MS care
- Your agreement to supply the Society with a copy of your reflective practice assignment and/or named elements of your course assessments, together with a reflective account of your experience of doing the course. The Society may disseminate information about your reflective practice assignment through its website and publications. If you wish, you will not be identified as author of the work.
If your bursary application is successful, the MS Society will send you a cheque for the agreed sum payable to Leeds Metropolitan University or Birmingham City University.
In the event that you are unable to complete your course you may be expected to repay your bursary to the MS Society, unless valid reasons for non-completion can be given. If, during your studies, you believe that you may not be able to complete your course, please contact the MS Society at the earliest opportunities to discuss this further.
The university will invoice the balance of the fees from yourself or another source as specified by you on the registration contract.
