Wheel & Walk in Manchester

Press Release
January 2008

It’s that time of year again when many of us are making New Year’s resolutions to get fit and give more to charity, and the MS Society is offering people in the North West the chance to do both in 2008.

More than 80,000 people in the region alone are affected by multiple sclerosis (MS), the most common debilitating condition of the central nervous system in young adults. The MS Society is inviting people to take part in the fully accessible fundraising event, Wheel & Walk, around the streets of Manchester in March.

Diana Gornall, Head of Community and Events Fundraising at the MS Society said:

“Wheel & Walk is so much fun simply because it includes everyone regardless of age or ability. Everybody can be involved whether they are fully mobile, making use of a wheelchair or mobility scooter, or still in their pram or pushchair!”

The event will take place over 6km on Sunday 30 March and passes famous Manchester landmarks such as the Town Hall and Albert Square, Manchester Cathedral, Urbis and many more.

There may also be the chance for top fundraisers to walk down the famous Coronation Street cobbles, subject to filming.

Manchester’s Wheel & Walk is part of MS Life, the MS Society’s national convention - a full weekend of events providing information on every aspect of living with MS including home, lifestyle, leisure, employment, medical research, treatment and support.

MS Life takes place on 29 to 30 March 2008 at Manchester Central (the new name for G-MEX).

Wheel & Walk will be held Sunday 30 March 2008 at 9.30am starting and finishing at Manchester Central.
