Message from Steve (Chairman) Thank you to all who attended the fair and all those that helped. Due to the efforts of many at the Friday Club an amazing £1,300+ was raised .. Shooting Star AwardsOctober 2007Two awards have been made to Branch Committee Members:- It gave me great pleasure to award Paul Stevens an award at our last Committee Meeting and Stephen Best an award at the Friday Club the day after the Committee Meeting. Myself and Christine put forward both because of the excellent work they both do, to keep the Branch running. Paul runs our Finances as Treasurer, it is Paul we turn to when we have a trip to organise, a fete to run, a social evening and much more we would not be able to arrange so much if it were not for Paul and his help and support and professionalism as Treasurer. Stephen.. What would we do without Stephen? He keeps us all informed as to what is going on, he does a remarkable Job in putting together Stepping Stones, Stephen is the sort of person who will help out at the ‘drop of a hat’, nothing is too much for him. Both help out at many events and help with such things as collections and fares bringing in much needed funding to enable us to run our new and older projects i.e. Friday Club, Thursday Socials, NEW SPELTHORNE YUMS and Harry’s Place, alternative therapies, counselling and more. These awards are the highest honour that can be bestowed by the MS Society to volunteers. Only one award per year is allowed to any Branch, we have due to exceptional circumstances, been allowed two! I’m sure there is much we’ve missed out THANKYOU to both Paul and Stephen Steve Mills Branch Chairman & Support Officer Fund RaisingSeptember 2007We are pleased to report that our branch has been one of two chosen recipients to be the beneficiary of the Spelthorne Lions for this year. Our grateful thanks go to them for this kindness, which will enable us to continue to give as high a level of service as possible to our members. read more » YUMS - Youngsters United against MSSeptember 2007Earlier this year the branch started a new social group YUMS. This group was started with the aim of encouraging younger persons with MS to engage in social meetings and activities with like minded people. The meetings are held on a monthly basis at The Kings Fairway, Ashford, Middx on a Saturday afternoon with a social event away from this venue arranged approximately every three months. A successful bowling day and bingo evening have previously been had. Future events scheduled are a theatre trip and banger racing (viewing only!) and disabled water skiing (participation or viewing) with possible bbq (t.b.a). The YUMS socials are not exclusive to certain age groups – more to encourage/unite younger persons with MS to become involved with the branch and its members in order to help overcome MS together as a group. We are actively trying to involve other branches and have extended invitations to some of these events. Please see our YUMS page for news and information regarding these social meetings/events. read more » Harry's Place30 August 2007The first "Harry's Place" meeting was held on Thursday 30th August at Hazelwood Golf Club in Sunbury. This social event has come about with Steve Mills and Harry O'Hara finding a pleasant and friendly venue for people to get together on a purely social basis. Carers and members were very well looked after by Steve and the friendly staff who served us with drinks and some very nice lunch-time food. Fourteen people attended and further dates have been set for the future meetings (roughly every two months). The golf club staff made us very welcome, parking is handy and access to the bar and toilets easy. A good time was had by a group of people all new to us (Wilma and Harry O'Hara), so do try and join in next time. A very big thank you to Steve for arranging this new venture and for running it so smoothly. For future meeting dates see Branch Diary. |
