Our International Programme and How to Get Involved

How do we work internationally? photogragh of recent international workshop
There are many ways the Society can work directly with MS societies overseas. In 2001, this included:

  • Hosting an international workshop on advocacy

  • Helping establish information services in Romania

  • Sponsoring delegates from Ukraine and Russia to attend events in the UK

  • An MS Nurse visited Barbardos during their MS Activities Week to highlight the need for Nurse Specialists - read a short report below
  •

The staff and volunteers doing this work are not just sharing their own expertise, but learning from others.

The society is also a member of the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF) and European MS Platform (EMSP).

Both organisations ensure the voice of people affected by MS in the UK is heard by decision-making bodies outside the country (eg. the European Union and World Health Organisation).

    Getting Involved

Here are seven examples of how you can get involved in international work.
    1. Contact an MS group in another country on your holiday

    2. Establish links with an overseas branch - exchange ideas or meet

    3. Represent the society at an international conference

    4. Take part in an international project; host visitors to the UK

    5. Visit the websites of the MSIF and EMSP - read about their work and that of societies worldwide

    6. Visit another MS society in Europe; find good ideas to use in the UK

    7. Receive copies of our international newsletter, 'MS Worldwide'
