Regional Essentials

In October 2002, it was agreed that a list of 'Essentials for Regions' should be developed. These complement the Branch Essentials and provide an even clearer focus to the work of our regions.

A region can undertake a range of activities to meet local needs and priorities; however, all regional must undertake the following Regional Essentials:

  • Website - Each region will develop and maintain a website linked to the MS Society main website.

  • Newsletter - Each region will create and circulate a newsletter to all members at least twice a year. Content including details of regional planning, upcoming events, successes in the Region and examples of good practice.

  • Annual Regional Conference - Each region will plan and organise a general meeting inviting all branches and the wider MS community. Some Regions find that two events in different locations each year help address problems generated by the geography of their Region.

  • The health and social care agenda - Each region will work in partnership with the Service Development Officer, branch volunteers and other local people affected by MS to improve health and social care provision.

  • Host standard training events - Each region will identify and book suitable venues and provide a regional host on the day for training events such as: Providing Support and Welcome Aboard

  • Welfare Forum and Chairs forum - Each region will develop and maintain a Welfare (MS Support) Forum to encourage networking between branch welfare volunteers, provide opportunities for peer support and joint working. Each region will also develop a similar forum for branch chairs and vice chairs.
  • Support branches in developing their services - Each region will work in partnership with staff to encourage branches to develop their local support services through newsletters, training days and other contacts with branches.
