How does the London congestion charge affect me?
Holders of a disabled person's Blue Badge can get a 100% discount from congestion charging by registering with Transport for London, using a discount registration form.
How congestion charging works
Anyone driving or parking a vehicle on public roads in the Central London congestion charging zone between 7am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, has to pay the daily congestion charge of £8. This charge can be paid in advance or on the day of travel. Road signs will indicate when you are entering a congestion charging zone. You can find a map of the congestion charging Zone on their websiteThe charge is £8 if paid on the day of travel. If the charge is not paid by midnight on the day of travel, the registered keeper will be sent a Penalty Charge Notice of £80. This is reduced to £40 for prompt payment within 14 days.
Blue Badge holders exemption
Blue Badge holders must initially register for exemption and a one-off £10 payment is required. No charge will be made for renewals made within 90 days of the discount expiry date. You do not need to own or drive a vehicle to register for the discount. You may register up to two vehicles that you normally use for travelling in Central London. These could be your vehicle, or vehicles which friends, relatives or carers use to drive you. You can change the vehicles you have registered and nominate vehicles previously unregistered for a short period at no additional cost by calling 0845 900 1234 or on the website www.cclondon.com.
The discount applies to the person who is the Blue Badge holder, not the vehicle that is being used.
