How do I know if I need social care?
If you are affected by MS you may need social care if you find you are becoming less independent or you need help to organise your day.
Social care is provided by different bodies in each of the countries that make up the UK.
- In England and Wales social care is provided by councils with social services responsibilities' (150 in England, 22 in Wales)
- In Scotland by 32 Social Work Departments
- In Northern Ireland by 19 Health and Social Services Trusts
If your life is affected by MS and you need some help with daily living:
- ask for an 'assessment of needs' from social services – it is something you are entitled to
- seek advice from a local source – your MS Society Branch, local disability groups or local Independent Living Centre
